Late occupation of Teotihuacan and the Mexica presence

About 1300 years ago, Teotihuacan stopped being the main political, economic and religious city of middle Mexico, causing that the inhabitants immigrates to other surrounding large cities and eventually the city was abandoned. However, there were always small groups of people and families who decided to stay and continue living in the ruins of the ancient city.Centuries later, the Mexica came to Teotihuacan and were astonished by the presence of buildings that, according to them, had been created by the gods. They even made pilgrimages to this city and made excavations looking for objects that were subsequently deposited as offerings in their Templo Mayor ("Great Temple") in their capital city of Tenochtitlan, which is now Mexico City.
