Built in 1852 by Alonzo Green and James Lane, the City Hotel was constructed of adobe, slate and brick. A family hotel, there was a saloon, billard [sic] and dining room on the first floor, with private rooms and parlors upstairs. Originally the building had a flat roof, with a gabled roof added in the 1890s. During its heyday as a hotel (1852-1896) all stagecoach lines stopped here and its dining room was a favorite of locals and travelers alike. Restored by Marvin E. Freeman in 1985, it is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
