First President of the Supreme Executive
Council of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
and Captain General and Commander-in-Chief in and over the same
on March 5, 1777

Died in Office, greatly lamented May 23, 1778.

At the request of the vestry , his remains were buried within
this church east of this tablet erected by the present vestry
July 4th, 1887
