Until it was named Federalsburg in 1812,the community took its name from the bridgeat this crossing. This 215-foot concretestructure was built in 1910 by the LutenBridge Company of York, Pennsylvania, a firm noted forits filled Spanderel Arch design. It wasbuilt as part of the newly-formed stateroads commission's plan to improve the highway system. Repaired and altered afterthe flood of 1935.
