Naval Medical Center Portsmouth is known as the "First and Finest." It was the nation's first Naval Hospital and has served the military since 1830. The hospital complex is 112 acres and serves approximately 430,000 active duty service members, military retirees and dependents. Portsmouth is one of three navy teaching hospitals with a Graduate Medical Education program. It is professionally staffed with more than 4,000 doctors, nurses, dentists, corpsman, medical officers and civilians.
