On this Victorian bandstand, musicians played for holiday visitors at Tolchester Beach, in Kent County. In the mid 1800s people from Baltimore and other Mid-Atlantic cities traveled to Tolchester Beach and other Eastern Shore destinations on steamboats to relax and have a good time.Like many amusement parks today, Tolchester Beach offered plenty of activities—-swimming, a penny arcade, shooting gallery, many rides including a miniature train and the Whoopi Doo roller coaster, and of course dancing to the music of the bands.
