Inscription
The first white settlers located in this vicinity about 1826. The first school was held in an abandoned log cabin in the northwest part of the township in 1833. Howard Township was organized by an Act of the Territorial Legislature on March 7, 1834. The population was 366 in 1837.

This TOWN HALL, originally 24 ft. by 36 ft., then called a "Town House," was built in 1883 at a cost of $775.
