Kilian Van Rensselaerthe Progenitorof the Van Rensselaer family in America. A merchant of Amsterdam Holland, the original proprietor and first patroon of the Manor of Rensselaerwyck, under a grant from the Dutch government in 1629. In following years he bought from the Indians lands lying on both sides of the Hudson from Baeren Island to Cohoes Falls and established settlement.Bicentennial Tablet 1886.
