Henry A. Engels settled at the Superior Mine in 1880. Discovered the Engels Mine in 1883. The first all flotation copper mill in the U.S. was completed in 1914. The Indian Valley Railroad began in 1917 and company town Engelmine was established. The mines and mill operated until the Great Depresssion.
