Beneath this stone is buried a capsule containing papers and items used in celebrating the American Revolution Bicentennial in Johnson County, Kansas. Placed on this Thanksgiving Eve November 24, 1976 A.D. by the Johnson County Bicentennial Committee.

"The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty and the destiny of the Republican model of government, are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally staked, on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people."
George Washington, April 3, 1789

This capsule is to be opened by county officials January 1, 2076 and the contents made available to the citizens of Johnson County as they plan the celebration of our nation's Tricentennial.
