The General Sherman
The workhorse of American armored forces during World War II, the Sherman became the best known American tank of that period. Almost 50,000 were built. An extremely reliable vehicle, the Sherman weighed about 31 tons, could travel at 25 miles per hour, had 3-inch armor plate and a 75mm gun.
