Inscription
A post-Civil War African American farming community established on former plantation land. Named for the Digges family chapel. A Freedman's Bureau School established in 1868 and a meetinghouse of ca. 1880 became focal points of the community. A benevolent society lodge and Rosenwald school were built in 1922. Followed by a second Rosenwald school in 1925.
