George A. Bowlus started the Bank of Allen County which was the second bank in Iola, located on this block between South Street and Washington Avenue. George was one of several business men who was instrumental in paying for the trolley tracks that went around the square. George was the father of Thomas Bowlus, the namesake of the Bowlus Fine Arts Center, located two blocks east of here.HM Number | HM1KQE |
