One of a group of mounds probably constructed about A.D. 1000 during the Cole Creek culture period. Surrounded by a large village area, such mounds served as foundations for sacred buildings and as platforms for the chief to address the tribesmen. This aboriginal mound was used in the 19th century as an officers cemetery for the Baton Rouge Post and Arsenal.
