Fondo del Embajador para la Conservación Cultural

En 1929, Antonio Sol realizó las primeras excavaciones arqueológicas en la historia de El Salvador aquí, en la pirámide principal de la antigua ciudad de Cihuatán.
Ahora, 85 años después, se están realizando trabajos para conservar las tres escalinatas descubiertas por Sol, para que puedan ser apreciadas por los visitantes y para que perduren al futuro. Este proyecto es apoyado por una donación del Fondo del Embajador para la Conservación Cultural, de Estados Unidos, otorgado a la Fundación Nacional de Arqueologia de El Salvador, FUNDAR. Agradecemos a la Embajadora de Estados Unidos, Mari Carmen Aponte, por esta importante contribución al patrimonio cultural salvadoreño. El proyecto se realiza en colaboración entre FUNDAR y la Secretaria de Cultura de la Presidencia.

U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation

In 1929, it was here that Antonio Sol carried out the first archaeological excavations in the history of El Salvador, at the main pyramid of the ancient city of Cihuatán. Now, 85 years later, conservation work is being undertaken on the three stairways discovered by Sol so that they may be seen by visitors and in order to ensure their future existence. This project is supported by the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation under a award granted to the the Fundacion Nacional de Arqueologia de El Salvador, FUNDAR. Our sincere thanks to the the Ambassador of the United States, Mari Carmen Aponte, for this important contribution to the cultural heritage of El Salvador. The project is a collaborative effort by FUNDAR and the Secretaria de Cultura de la Presidencia.Captions:

Excavaciones realizadas por FUNDAR dirigidas por Fabio Amador y Pablo Amaroli en 2001-2002 para documentar y estudiar la condición de la escalinata principal de la pirámide. Este fue realizado con la preparación de dar paso a su conservación, la cual ahora ha sido posible gracias al Fondo del Embajador para la Conservación Cultural.
Excavation conducted by FUNDAR under the direction of Fabio Amador and Paul Amaroli in 2001-2002 in order to document and study condition of the pyramid´s main stairway. This work was done in preparation for its conservation, which has become possible thanks to the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation.
