Tanglewood was originally built ca. 1845 on Norrell Road, then just south of Clinton, by Andrew and Nancy Thomas for their daughter Mary Jane and her husband, James A. Criddle. By 1876 Tanglewood had come into the ownership of Captain William Lewis and his wife, Caroline Criddle, who moved the house around 1878 to its Jefferson Street location. This one-story Greek Revival galleried cottage was renovated in 1926 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.
