The log buildings along the south side of the fort were used as officers quarters in the early years of the fort. When the brick officers' quarters were completed the log buildings became married enlisted men's and laundress quarters.

The laundress charged soldiers by the piece or at a monthly rate set by the commanding officer. The laundress collected the money the soldiers owed her directly from the paymaster.

The buildings were dismantled in the 1890s. Several archeological digs have uncovered where the buildings were located. Artifacts such as bottle fragments, doll pieces, ceramics and hardware were recovered during these digs.
