Created in the early 1950s as the city's first comprehensive museum, the Columbus Museum of Arts and Sciences, 1251 Wynnton Road, features permanent exhibits of fine and decorative arts, southeastern Indian artifacts, and regional history and folklife. The James W. Woodruff, Jr., Confederate Naval Museum, 101 4th Street, established in the early 1960s, houses Confederate Navy artifacts which include remains of two war vessels — "The Muscogee" and "The Chattahoochee."
