Billie Holiday Born Ellanora Harris, in Philadelphia, PA April 7, 1915, Rose from the depths of poverty and racial injustice that has characterized the African American experience. To achieve world-renown as a great jazz singer.

This monument acknowledges lady day as a socially relevant artist who served suffering as well as beauty through her songs. As she was heard on the stage of the historic Royal Theater in Baltimore the city of her youth.
Dedicated April 7m 1955-Mayor William Donald Schafer-Rededicated July 17, 2009 the 50th anniversary of Billie Holiday's Ascension-Mayor Sheila Dixon & the citizens of Baltimore.
