The Tecpan throughout time
After defeating the Mexicas and immediately after taking over Tlatelolco, Hernán Cortés ordered the construction of Tecpan for it to be the host of Judicial Power of the Indian Republic Capital. This was the same that was under the command of Cuauhtémoc. It was constructed 218 yards to the north of the convent with the intention of leaving the area of the tianguis (great market) of Tlatelolco, which lasted until the second half of XVIII Century. The high part of the arch was an amendment from the Porfirian era, which recovered the building for it to be the Escuela de Huérfanos (orphan school), which years before had been under the protection of Benito Juárez and Carlota, among other benefactors. Years later the school was moved to Section 2 of the living unit under the name of Secundaria No 16 Pedro Díaz. On the Tlatelolco Codex of 1563 the Tecpan can be seen along with a messenger from the Viceroy of the New Spain (México) that is punishing the judges of the tianguis that did not honorably fulfill their duties.
