The Mississippi River defines Helena
The Mississippi River has for centuries been the backbone of life in Helena; fertilizing its soil, supporting its farms and businesses, connecting people and cultures. Despite this rich history, there is much that continues to be misunderstood about the role the river plays in everyday life.
Re-connecting Helena with the river is a key goal of the Delta Bridge Project, the community's comprehensive effort to revitalize Phillips County.
The panels throughout Helena River Park have stemmed from this work. With support of the National Audubon Society, more than fifteen community organizations came together to develop content targeted at educating visitors, about the connections between their lives and the Mississippi River. These organizations include: the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the City of Helena-West Helena A& P. Commission, the Delta Cultural Center, Helena Marine Service, Quapaw Canoe Company, Southern Bancorp Capital Partners, and many others.
