This entrance, named Artists' Gate in 1862, was redesigned in 1951 by landscape architect Gilmore D. Clarke as the City's tribute to the Avenue of the Americas.
In 1996 the plaza was restored by the Central Park Conservancy in partnership with the City of New York Parks & Recreation through the generosity of Time Warner.
