Sergt. Joseph E. Griffith, Sergt. N. C.

Messenger and about 12 other enlisted men
of the regiment entered this redoubt at
its salient angle where a breach had been
made by the Union Artillery. Remained in-
side the work a short time then
retired to the outside slope of its par-
apet after sustaining severe loss taking
with them as prisoners a Lieut. and about
12 enlisted men.

Killed 27, wounded 118, missing 19 total
