Don Reshetar is a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota and a 1947 graduate of Minneapolis South High School. Coach Reshetar graduated with his bachelor's degree from Augustana College, in 1951 and master's degree from Northern State University in 1958.
Coach Reshetar's teaching and coaching career began in 1951 at Egan, SD, he then served two years as a Navy Officer during the Korean War. Reshetar returned to take over as the head football coach for the Webster Bearcats. After a stint with the Mitchell Kernels, Reshetar became the head football coach for the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles in 1960 - a position he held through the 1974 season. In 1962, he assumed the duties as the Athletic Director for the Aberdeen Public School - a position he would hold for twenty-two years.
Coach Reshetar's accomplishments as a coach include going undefeated and winning the Northeast Conference football championship with the Webster Bearcats, and two Eastern South Dakota Conference football championships while at the helm of the Golden Eagles. Reshetar's career record was 105-50-5. In addition he served as the director of the Aberdeen Relays for twenty-three years and was a starter at the SDHSAA State Track and Field meet for thirteen years.
Coach Reshetar is the recipient of multiple awards and honors - the 1965 Governor's
Ambassador Award, president of the Eastern South Dakota Conference, president of the South Dakota Athletic Director's Association, the 1982 South Dakota Athletic Director of the Year, 1982 ESD Conference Service Award, the SDHSAA Distinguished Service Award in 1989, and was elected to the Augustana College Athletic Hall of Fame, South Dakota Football Coaches Hall of Fame, South Dakota High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and the South Dakota Interscholastic Administrator's Hall of Fame.
Coach Reshetar and is wife Rosemary, have four children, Judy, Janice, Don, Jr., and Tom.
