This battery was also known as Swett's battery. With its brigade it moved to the extreme right in support of General Breckinridge's division in the morning and remained in position without becoming engaged till the afternoon. About 5 p.m. the battery was ordered forward by the Reed's Bridge Road coming into position on this ground on the right of its division line. When the battery opened on the enemy about 800 yards northwest artillery from several points immediately replied completely enfilading the line of infantry. Reynolds' division of infantry in plain view moving at a double-quick directly against the left flank of the division with the artillery fire above mentioned made the position untenable. The battery was ordered to retire which it did as rapidly as possible losing one gun by the loss of a horse which was soon after recovered by the advance of Captain T.J. Fletcher and a few men of the 13th Arkansas. Casualties of the battle: killed 2 enlisted men wounded 1 officer 8 enlisted men 11 horses killed or disabled.
