Mathieu d'Amours
à l'occasion du 350e anniversaire
de son arrivée à Québec
Mathieu d'Amours, sieur de Chaufours,
né à Paris en 1618, arrive à Québec en 1651 en compagnie
du gouverneur Jean de Lauson.
En 1652, il épouse Marie Marsolet, fille de Marie Le Barbier
et de Nicolas Marsolet, célèbre interprète auprès des
Algonquins et des Montagnais. Il acquiert de ce dernier
en 1657 l'emplacement de la rue Sous-le-Fort à Québec.
Mathieu d'Amours fait sa marque comme armateur,
major de Québec et membre du Conseil souverain,
fonction qu'il occupe de 1663 jusqu'a sa mort
survenue le 9 octobre 1695.
Le 8 novembre 1672, l'intendant Jean Talon, reconnaissant
ses mérites, lui concède la seigneurie de Matane dont
le titre officiel de concession sera émis le 26 juin 1677.

Mathieu d'Amours, Sieur de Chaufours,
born in Paris in 1618, arrived in Quebec in 1651 in the company of
Governor



Jean de Lauson.
In 1652, he married Marie Marsolet, daughter of Marie Le Barbier
and Nicolas Marsolet, famous interpreter to the
Algonquins and Montagnais. In 1657, he acquired the site of
Rue Sous-le-Fort in Quebec City.
Mathieu d'Amours made his mark as a ship owner,
Major of Quebec, and Member of the Sovereign Council,
functions he occupied from 1663 until his death
which occurred on October 9, 1695.
On November 8, 1672, Intendant Jean Talon, grateful for
his merits, conceded to him the seigniory of Matane, whose
official concession title was issued June 26, 1677.
