Historic Site No. 6
The center portion of this building, with its gabled roof, was built in 1899 for Charles Osgood, proprietor of the first bank in the county—the Presque Isle County Bank. The original building is shown in this 1907 photo. Charles Osgood is on the right and George Grambau, the bank's teller, is on the left. Osgood's bank had opened here on December 18, 1890, in a small log cabin at the corner of Third Street and Huron Avenue. The bank remained in this location until 1911, when it moved into a much larger copper-domed bank building at the corner of Third Street and Michigan Avenue.HM Number | HM2BN5 |
