On this site Frederick's Boys High School was constructed in 1911-12 as a "public secondary school for boys" (minutes Frederick County Board of School Commissioners).

The co-educational Frederick High School served as the community's primary secondary school until 1938 when it was converted to a junior high school and renamed the Elm Street School. The Building was demolished in 1989.
