Behind A Renaissance Revival Façade
—161 Bowery —
Step back for a moment to take in the eclectic design of the elaborate façade drawing on Renaissance Revival and Neo-Classical ornament. The carved limestone storefront that extends to the second story incorporates pilasters with smooth shafts and Italian Renaissance capitals capped with vases. Designed in 1900 by architect William Jacob Dilthey, a restaurant originally occupied the first floor with manufacturing operations on the upper six floors.HM Number | HM2GB3 |
