In 1864 & 1865, George Sulliva
Stearns purchased two parcels
of land totaling nearly 24
acres around the crest of a
hill in what had recently
become known as Wyoming.
On that land, he built
a lovely Victorian house,
complete with a barn
and gardens. After his death in
1889, his daughter, Amy Stearns
Cowing and her husband Rufus
Alan Cowing, raised their
family in that house. After 1920,
the house was demolished and
the property subdivided into
smaller lots along the original
driveway. That driveway is
now known as Linden Drive,
the street at your left.
