A Lawyer and World War II U.S. Navy Veteran. Served Louisiana in the United States Senate for seven terms under eight different U.S. Presidents from 1948 to 1987. The son of legendary Louisiana Governor and U.S. Senator Huey Pierce Long and Rose McConnell long, he was a tireless champion of poor, disadvantaged and working Americans using his mastery of law, finance and politics, Russell Long improved the lives of millions while promoting business growth. He was chairman of the Senate Finance Committee from 1965-1981, where he presided over more than half of all national legislation.Russell Long was later eulogized by his senate colleagues as one of the most effective, influential and admired legislators of the 20th century.Front of Monument
