From South Carolina line to Florida linedistance of 136 miles. Traversing Chatham, Bryan, Liberty, McIntosh,Glynn and Camden Counties.

First work done in 1735 when the roadfrom Savannah to Darien, probably thefirst road in Georgia, was laid out withthe assistance of Tomochichi, theMico of the Yamacraws.

Savannah River bridge completed August 1925. Paving through ChathamCounty completed 1921. Construction from Chatham-Bryan county line toFlorida line financed with State andFederal funds and a $900,000 BondIssue of the Coastal Highway District.

Construction program of the CoastalHighway District under the leadership of Harvey Granger, chairman of the Coastal Highway Commission, begunAugust 1924 and completed October1927.
