The eastern terminal of this 28-mile shortlinestood southwest of this site. It was establishedin 1907 by Knoxville industrialist W.J. Oliver.and constructed by his firm. The KS & E andits successor companies were dubbed "Knoxville,Slow & Easy." The line aided the economicgrowth of Sevier County and was essential tothe construction of Douglas Dam during WorldWar II. later known as the Smoky MountainRailroad, it ceased operations in 1961HM Number | HMB64 |
