Held this position from the morning
of July 3d until close of battle.

The State of New York erected this monument in honor of
the Forty Third Reg't New York Infantry.
Organized at Albany, N.Y. Mustered into the U.S. Service Sept. 22d 1861.
Served with the 6th Corps Army of the Potomac throughout the war
Mustered out June 27th 1865. Bore a part in the engagements of
Yorktown. Willamsburgh. The Seven Days Battle.
Crampton's Pass. Antietam. Fredericksburg. Marye's Heights.
Salem Heights. Gettysburg. Rappahannock Station. Mine Run.
Wilderness. Spottsylvania. North Anna. Tolopotomoy.
Cold Harbor. Petersburg 1864. Fort Stevens. Winchester.
Fisher's Hill. Cedar Creek. Petersburg 1865. Sailor's Creek.
Appomattox Court House.
