Maj. General Arthur St. Clair
camped on the ridge to the eastfrom Sunday evening, October 30th, until the morning of November 2nd 1791,awaiting the forwarding of flour,tents and heavy baggage. The troopshad advanced seven miles fromGreenville Creek following the WabashTrail. While here, a severe stormoccured and some sixty hungry anddisgruntled militiamen desertedthreatening to plunder the provisionwagons coming up the road. In orderto apprehend the deserters andestablish discipline three hundredselect men from the first regimentwere sent after them. For additionalprotection a heavy semicircularembankment of logs and earth wasthrown across the exposed northside of camp.
