This memorial is erected on the site
of the birthplace of
William Percy French
Born 1st May 1854
and commemorates his life as
engineer, song-writer, entertainer,
artist and journalist.

"Remember me is all I ask,
and yet if the remembrance
prove a task - forget!" W.P.F.

Erected by Co. Roscommon Historical
and Archaeological Society in 1984.

to commemorate the
150th anniversary of
the birth of
Percy French
1854 - 1920

Unveiled by his great grand nephew
Paul French
1st May 2004

William Percy French was born in
this house in 1854.
Civil Engineer, song-writer, author,
singer, painter, librettist, entertainer.
Most lovingly remembered for his comic-sweet
songs which included:
?Come Back Paddy Reilly to Ballyjamesduff'
?The Mountains of Mourne'
?Phil the Fluter's Ball' and
that hymn to the West Clare Railway
?Are ye Right There, Michael?'
He gave pleasure wherever he passed and left a kindly
memory to all who knew him.
He died at Formby in 1920
