On the brow of the hill overlooking the meadowstood the Old Stone Fort or Stoughton House. It wasin two portions, one stone, probably the older, and one wood. At the north end was a door of heavy oaktimbers studded with iron spikes, which bore thehacks and cuts of indian tomahawks. The house wastorn down in 1809
