— Robert L. Wright —

The City Market reflects the active civic improvement work in Madison at the turn of the century. Like other public projects, the Market was intended to enhance the advantages of city life. The building design by Madison architect Robert L. Wright is a unique example of the Prairie School style. Set out on an I-plan, its horizontality is emphasized by wide roof overhangs and by cement stringcourses through bichrome brick walls.
