These grounds are a testament to the vision and persistence of Michael Olbrich (1881-1929). For years, this attorney and University of Wisconsin regent, worked to raise money to gain title to these properties, which he then sold to the City of Madison at no profit to himself. He was a wildflower enthusiast and an advocate for public parks throughout the city.
