Connecting to the past
Windy Saddle Park
Lying between the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains and the western edge of the Great Plains, Windy Saddle park has served as a gateway for travelers into the central Rockies for thousands of years. Evidence of humans has been found in this area dating as far back as the Paleo-Indian period (7,000 to 12,000 years ago)!
A Colorado Scenic and historic Byway
The 40-mile driving route known as the Lariat Loop connects a necklace of scenic, natural and historic properties. Many were first identified by the 1914 Olmstead Plan for a mountain park system. Suddenly, the automobile made the Front Range foothills accessible and offered the option of tourism as an economic development tool.
The car is no longer the exotic new toy it was a that time, but spectacular views, numerous parks, museums, heritage sites, historic dinosaur discoveries, art galleries and much more still await the traveler!
