— General Braxton Bragg, CSA 1817-1876 —

Bragg, born in Warrenton, North Carolina, graduated from West Point in 1837 and joined the artillery. Bragg saw service in the Seminole War and the Mexican War before resigning from the army in 1856. Bragg joined the Confederate Army and became Commander of Army of Tennessee, and commanded the troops at Chickamauga. In February 1864 he became Chief of Staff to Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States. After the war he became a civil engineer.
