Colonel James Boynton, CSA 1833-1902
Boynton, born in Henry County, Georgia, enlisted as a private in the thirtieth Georgia Regiment and rose to the rank of Colonel of the Regiment. His regiment bore its full share of danger and toil and the regiment never went into action except under his gallant leadership. After the war he served as the Mayor of Griffin, Georgia, State Senator, Supreme Court Judge, and became Governor of the State of Georgia in 1883 upon the death of Governor Stephens.| HM Number | HM1O70 |
