On 10 July 1943 the U.S.S. Pompon left Brisbane, Australia, to begin her first patrol. She sank a 5,871 ton transport during this patrol. On her sixth and most successful patrol the Pompon sank 2 vessels, including a 2,718 ton transport. She completed 9 patrols during which she was credited with sinking 3 vessels totalling 13,470 tons. The Pompon earned the Asiatic-Pacific Area Service [sic - Campaign] Medal and 4 Battle Stars during her 9 patrols. In 1960 she was stricken from the Naval Register.
