Ancient Poplar Tree

An ancient poplar tree sprouted on this site before Columbus sailed for the New World. It grew to great height and breadth. After being struck by lightning, it decayed to form a hollow center which provided a hiding place for possessions. A man hid his cow and calf there to save them from Union Soldiers during the Civil War. It gave travelers shelter from the rain and couples called it the "Loving Tree". This tree has long witnessed the weather, nature and generations of Forsyth County.
