This Brigade was detached from its Division. After opposing the enemy during the 18th at the Alexander Bridge crossing, and assisting Minty's Cavalry Brigade in resisting the crossing at Reed's Bridge, it fell back before Hood's advance and remained on this line during the night of the 18th, in close contact with the enemy, observing the roads from the various crossings of the Chickamauga. The 92d Illinois was with General Reynolds.

At 4 a.m. of the 19th the Brigade withdrew to the edge of the woods west of the Viniard House.

From this position it took part throughout the afternoon, and, in succession, at nearly all points on the line, in the battle which raged about Viniard's from 2 o'clock till sundown.
