This brigade formed line in rear of Gregg's Brigade on this ground about 7 a.m. It advance with the division to meet the attack of Davis' Union Division from the direction of Viniard's. Two of its regiments, the 39th North Carolina and the 25th Arkansas, moved forward to Gregg's line during the heaviest engagement of the latter, and finally forced their way 200 yards across the LaFayette road, when they were enfiladed by Wilder's Brigade and forced to retire. The remainder of the brigade charged to the right and drove the opposing forces to and beyond the LaFayette road.
