On this site, between 1880 and 1909, Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin created the elaborate Tallac Resort. The luxury complex featured a hotel, a casino, several cottages, a clubhouse, a boathouse, and three piers.
Wealthy society families from San Francisco and Virginia City retreated to Tallac to experience nature and relax. Much like visitors to Lake Tahoe today, they went horseback riding, hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, or sun bathing during the day, and at night gambled and ate fabulous food.
Lucky's daughter Anita inherited the property. In the late 1920s, she had the structures removed due to environmental concerns.
