Rockefeller Apartments, built in 1935-37, are a major example of the International Style. Designed by the firm of Harrison & Fouilhoux, the two buildings were commissioned by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. and Nelson Rockefeller to enhance the family interests in Rockefeller Center. Wallace K. Harrison's spare detailing, the rhythmic pattern of the semicircular window bays and concern for light and air changed the standards for New York City apartment planning.
