Walker House
—1887 —
Designed by respected architects Joseph C. Newsom and his brother Samuel, the two and one-half story hotel was built in the Eastlake style. The San Jose Land Company began construction in 1885, but by the time it was completed in 1887, the Southern California land boom had collapsed. The hotel would never have a paying guest. Following attempts to give it away, the building was sold in 1889 to Mr. and Mrs. James W. Walker of Kentucky. They made it their family home, and for nearly ninety years, six generations of Walker descendants lived there.HM Number | HM2D3I |
