Southover was one of the earliest suburbs of Lewes. The Priory was built here on low land between the River Ouse and the Winterbourne stream. King Henry VIII ordered the Priory to be destroyed in 1537-8. Some of the Caen Stone from the Priory was then used to build the Southover Grange. Its beautiful gardens are open to the public.
